Seventy Percent of New Telematics Customers Request Driver ID Cybit, the UK's leading online Telematics Service Provider, has announced that 70 percent of new telematics customers require driver identification solutions for legislative compliance. The new Corporate Manslaughter Act states that employers must pro-actively provide a safe working environment for all mobile employees and the Cybit Duty of Care module - which integrates Driver ID - is designed to help companies achieve compliance. Driver ID links individual drivers to a vehicle and its activity. This allows businesses to easily see specific instances where employees exceed safe driving times or speeds and put themselves in positions of aggravated risk. The Cybit Duty of Care module helps companies to structure legislative compliance by combining Fleetstar's real-time fleet visibility with detailed analysis of each employee's status and safety. Driver ID, when linked to vehicle immobilisation can ensure that only drivers holding the required license or training certificate are allowed to use a certain vehicle. "The new Corporate Manslaughter Act will shake up the way that businesses view their fleets operations, because there is now a substantial increase in the responsibilities and burden of proof falling on their shoulders," commented Richard Horsman, Cybit's Chief Executive Officer. "Every mobile employee needs a safe working environment and the only way this can be guaranteed is through complete visibility of the mobile workplace. It is estimated that one third of road accidents involve company vehicles or employees on company business." "Enhanced timesheet management, fuel cost savings and increased business efficiency can all be gained through tracking vehicles and analysing journey information," continued Richard Horsman, "so there are significant competitive and cost advantages that can be gained through implementing Cybit telematics." Cybit's Driver ID is straight-forward to use for businesses and employees. Smartcards, PINs and Dallas Keys enable driver access to the vehicle, which will not start without the correct input. This enables both vehicle and driver activity to be monitored. The Cybit system keeps an accurate record of the driver's journey, which can be viewed in real time, and produces safety reports at any interval required by the employer. Fleetstar-Online is Cybit's scalable Internet-based telematics solution that features real-time vehicle tracking, exception reporting, replay mode, customised reports, mileage information, SMS messaging and live traffic information. Fleet vehicles are fitted with a small electronic in-vehicle-unit (IVU) which is tracked by GPS in real-time and then transmits data to Cybit's online control centre. It provides companies with a cost-effective fleet management solution, which offers users anytime, anywhere access to the system via a standard web browser. |
